Will You Goldilocks™ Me?

Have you ever considered a proposal without a ring? For many people an engagement ring is a symbol of the proposal and what people often ask to see when you are engaged. But times are changing, and young people are looking at options that suit them better. Eugene is one of them, and this is his story:

What made you choose a Goldilocks to propose with? When I decided to propose to my girlfriend, Wanlin, I knew I needed a piece of jewellery. After some hinting from her here and there, I concluded that she didn’t want a proposal ring. On top of that, I have no idea of her ring size, so it would be hard for me to get a ring for her. So what I thought of next was a necklace. She lacks of a lovely necklace to go with her nice clothes. My friends thought it was a good idea too, provided the pendant had a meaningful design, for example, Wanlin’s and my initials.

I then started to search online for jewellery shops that provide customized design pendant service. Goldilocks was one of the first I found. The moment I saw the pendants designed by Goldilocks, I fell in love with them. The designs are simple yet elegant. To be honest, I didn’t go to Goldilocks straight. I took Goldilocks’s pendant designs as reference and went to another shop which my friend recommended. When they tried to design a pendant for me, the result was utterly disappointing. That’s when I knew I must turn to Goldilocks. After a few days, I received 2 mock designs from Goldilocks and they were both stunningly beautiful.

Could you explain what the WE stands for? It stands for Wanlin & Eugene. I guess you can also read it as “we”.

How are you planning to propose? To cut a long story short, I will be proposing at Siloso beach, and some of our friends will be gathered there to witness and be part of the proposal. I hope (I’m sure) Wanlin will like the necklace.

We had to hold this post until Eugene proposed so that the information would not leak to his girlfriend. He has now notified us that all went well, so we publish this for Eugene and Wanlin – Wishing you both all the best!

Goldilocks goes French

We say Bonjour! to the Goldilocks Moustache, the latest in our Doodles collection, and the first one to have been created by a guest designer. Introducing: Tiphaine Guillermou! A wandering soul, who grew up all around the world, she has landed in Singapore (for now).

Tiphaine explains ‘After reading Patrick Süskind’s Perfume I became absolutely fascinated with scents’. Her ‘cruel passion for vanilla’ brought her into working with French luxury fragrance companies, which in turn lead to finding her real calling – design. Making sure that she was always working on creative projects where she could use her hands, she created jewellery and accessories before taking on a second degree – this time in Arts. Lucky for us, she chose Singapore for this.

‘Here I met Chris & Sara, and after a few jewellery classes (and beers) I ended up doing this moustache with them. What a delight.’

Why a moustache? Why should a moustache be for men only? I would love to wear one. Girls may want to wear one too, if they cannot grow one (hopefully not). I think it is a great accessory. And a moustache looks very dandy, very French, very masculine and provocatively sexy (but not on all of you gentlemen, I’m sorry).

What were the challenges (if any) in designing a Goldilocks? Goldilocks is one thread only. So no crazy double tip moustache with volume can be created. I first wanted to give it a bit of thickness, but had to try something else. Actually it’s much better to keep it simple. It goes straight to the point. The essence of a moustache. Curl, wave, wave, curly curl.

Goldilocks™ for You & Me

I was designing a Goldilocks™ for myself, for my wedding and wanted something that is less direct than, let’s say, a heart or both our initials. To begin with, I was planning a bracelet saying mr & mrs, in the style of our yes/no bracelet (above) but the minimalist in me kicked in, and all that remained for the final piece was the &.

You & Me, Mr & Mrs; the ampersand (&)  is what binds the words together. Being an everyday symbol connecting words, it can stand for so much more. Goldilocks™ You & Me is made in 2-tone, as a symbol of the joining of two parts, words – or people.

What other symbols would you want to see in Goldilocks? What would they represent?

Beautiful Birthstones

As a child, I used to love my birthstone. It was such a pretty purple colour. Most of all, I knew it was special because it was just for me. I might have grown out of the magical beauty of it, but the Amethyst is still my favourite stone. And for those who think that only Diamonds make nice jewellery, have a look at this…

A custom set Blue Sapphire Birthstone added to a Goldilocks™ Necklace.

An Amethyst Birthstone hidden on the inside of the engagement ring – what a beautiful surprise!

This couple happen to share a birthstone – so what better choice than Ruby Wedding Bands.

A 60th Birthday present for mum – using the Birthstones of mother and son.

So many nice ways of incorporating birthstones into jewellery. And for you lucky girls of April, the Diamond is still your best friend!

Goldilocks™ Lucky Draw Winner – Prerna Pant

Shopaholics Anonymous Sale 2010, was held in a beautiful space on the second floor along Clarke Quay accompanied with a fashion show across the river. Everybody who purchased from the sale, had a chance to enter our Goldilocks™ Lucky Draw to win a customized necklace.

And the lucky winner is Prerna Pant! A Strategist at Ogilvy, she had not seen Goldilocks before the event, but entered the lucky draw as a long shot.

Congratulations Prerna! You are the winner of our Goldilocks™ Lucky Draw! When you first visited our showroom, you said you never win at lucky draws or lotteries. We hope that Goldilocks™ can be your lucky charm!

We made you a mockup of both Prerna and a single P – what made you decide on the alphabet necklace rather than your name? A name necklace (in my personal opinion) is for slightly younger people and  I wanted something that I can possibly wear to work as well.

Did you have any difficulties choosing between rose, yellow and white gold? How did you make your choice? White gold looks too much like silver. Rose is too close to my skin color. Yellow gold was the only one that stood out the most.
What products or designs would you like to see next from Goldilocks™? More interesting funky designs would be great to see. And something incorporating rose gold and yellow together.

Lost and Found: SER Jewellery Shoot

In the midst of spring cleaning our computers, we came across some beautiful pictures that have not been shown here on the blog yet.

Artika Sulaiman’s private sale company Sloane Elizabeth Robertson were shooting their lookbook for an upcoming sale and More than Diamonds and Goldilocks offered our jewellery to complete the looks. While on location, we also took a few pictures of our own.

Angela Leow Gray was one of the ‘muses’ chosen for the project. Here wearing a Baroque South Sea Pearl Ring from More than Diamonds.

Goldilocks enters the fashion world… This was at the very start of Goldilocks.

And now, back to clearing the hard drive and start a New, Innovative Year!

Year Year Have Fish

The Chinese idiom 年年有余 ‘Nian Nian You Yu’ directly translated means ‘Year Year Have Surplus’. The English translation would be ‘May you have Abundance in life year after year’. This is a greeting commonly heard throughout Chinese New Year.

The character 余 ’yu’ which means surplus or abundance sounds exactly like the character 鱼 ‘yu’ which means fish. Hence, the fish is often used as a symbol of abundance and is meant to give a good start to the new year.

Although commonly seen at Chinese New Year, the fish is a good symbol all year round. According to Feng Shui a pair of swimming fish symbolizes a harmonious marriage, fertility and wealth. Some New Year decorations even use the character for’ fish’ instead of ‘surplus’ as a good luck pun.

The Chinese are not the only ones to use fish as a symbol of luck or good omen. The fish is also a symbol used by Christians, who in turn got it from the ancient Greeks. The Celts saw the fish as a symbol of knowledge, wisdom, inspiration and prophecy. And we all know that eating fish makes you clever…

Do you know any other beliefs surrounding the fish?

Goldilocks™ Doodles – It’s Happy Hour!

We are welcoming a new member to our Goldilocks™ Doodles family. Young (at heart), sophisticated and definitely fun-loving, she is serious about her work and even more committed to a good laugh. Catching up on the gossip with her girlfriends after work, is what gets her up in the mornings. Never one to say no to a party, this girl has her dancing shoes on at all times.

Enter Goldilocks ‘Martini’, on Chain, a twist of White Gold and Peridot, with a dash of fun. We used a Peridot for the Olive, but it can also be changed  into a Diamond Lychee… ;)

Goldilocks™ Doodles, Kawaii desu ne!

Christmas lights are up on Orchard Road and the season of giving is around the corner, so we brought Goldilocks™ to the Raffles Town Club for their Xmas Fair.

A tad early for Christmas perhaps, but a ho-ho-ho-ing Santa and all the Scandinavian candles on sale at the fair, helped bring out that warm feeling of Christmas and lured out the inner child in us.

Setting up early in the morning next to more than a hundred other vendors, selling anything from flat bottle art, to cooking classes, wine and cheese tasting along with handmade notebooks and soaps.

Fellow vendors and Club members were curious to see what we had to offer. We very excited that our new Doodles collection brought out so many ‘kawaii‘ exclamations from the Japanese visitors. We were also kept busy explaining all the options to customizing Goldilocks with words and messages.

In the spirit of giving, we contributed a few vouchers to the Lucky Draw. We can’t wait to see what the Lucky Draw Winners choose to make….

Let us know what’s on your Christmas Wishlist this year!

Goldilocks showcase at the hansel shop

For those of you who don’t have time to come down to visit us in Orchard Road – Goldilocks now has its own showcase at the hansel store in Stamford House by the defunct Capitol Theatre. We went there to set up lights and display some new stock.

Chris sorting out the power plug so we could shine some light onto Goldilocks…

While in the shop, we could not help but notice the new cross stitch inspired decor and the lovely new pieces from the newest collection called ‘Lily the Lady’.  For anyone who has been watching the TV series Mad Men – be inspired!

All that’s missing is a Goldilocks Necklace around her neck…. ;)

Sara could not take her eyes off this lovely Lace Collar Dress! Here in a very sweet colour combo a la Swedish flag…  She left the shop a proud owner of one in Navy Blue….

We also spotted the Sequin Bustier Dress (on Sale!) that the lovely Katy Perry wore when she crashed a high school prom in Australia recently. See more here.
